No Imperial Wars! Teach Truth! Long Live International Solidarity!

Coalition for Liberated Ethnic Studies Statement:

As We Enter Two Weeks into the War with Iran

As a coalition of Ethnic Studies educators, caregivers, and community organizers committed to fighting for liberatory education that teaches respect and dignity for all peoples,

We demand an immediate end to U.S. intervention:

  • No war on Iran

  • Let Cuba live

  • End the genocide in Palestine

Since the start of this war the U.S. and Israel have bombed multiple schools, murdering at least 181 children. U.S. and Israeli aggression is killing children, teachers, and families in Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, and beyond. Schools, hospitals, and places of worship are being bombed - our future generations erased.

As we witness the ongoing escalation in attacks on Iran and Lebanon this past week, the urgency of stopping these wars is clearer than ever.

As this administration enables genocide in Palestine, undermines democracy in Latin America, and wages war on Iran, it deploys military troops to suppress political dissent in our communities, in our homes, and in our schools.

These violent policies at home and abroad are interconnected. They are directly tied to the bans and attacks on liberatory education, ethnic studies, and the censorship of curricula that centers and uplift the voices and experiences of peoples most impacted by U.S. imperial policies. They are a direct outcome of investing in death and war making and instead of public education and our collective good.

It is in these moments that we recognize the importance of centering liberatory education.

We demand education that

  • teaches and affirms all life

  • fights for a future for collective liberation, internationalism, and solidarity

  • opposes US imperialism and militarism, racial capitalism, heteropatriarchy, and racism in all its forms

In a world where misinformation and AI technology is being used to fuel wars and undermine liberation movements, we are committed to resisting colonial ideologies in the classroom and to centering liberatory education for all.

For the love of all our children, we fight for and demand a new world in which everyone’s humanity and dignity are fully realized.

Take action. Refuse silence. Demand an end to war and genocide now.
